My work is developing more with the use of colour these days. I have been focusing on colour theory and shapes mostly. I thought I would be a bit experimental and create some branding similar to my work. As part of the brief this Semester, we have been instructed to build our own identities that reflect our websites, portfolio and start to interact with social media on a professional level. I have actually already created mine. My theme is very minimal, using black and white with a touch of grey for my colour scheme. When I began Graphic Design I really wasn't fond of exhibiting colour throughout my work. Even when I captured photographs, I always preferred developing in black and white. It's funny how things have progressed, who'd a thunk it??!!
Choosing colours is a matter of personal expression. For me, it is instinctive and often spontaneous. The way I use and work with colour really depends on my response to a particular shade or group of colours. Each shade can change the energy and mood that surrounds every tone. Apart from the usual Pantone colour intelligence, I still prefer to get colour inspiration on things I see when I am just snapping images on my iPhone, either for personal use or Instagram. Coloured paper is my BF at the moment. I was in the studio last week on a paper chase trying to find some coloured paper, thankfully I found some! I took a few images of the paper and the colours influenced my POLLY design. Looking forward to seeing what else I can create with this paper.
Ok so I haven't completely left the building, I will just be on a brief hiatus. My University workload has become a bit steep. Inspiration and findings from other sources will be making an appearance on Sixteenth of the Sixth so that my posts are not completely non-existent! Unless stated otherwise, everything you see has been created by me, Polly Alexandra.

Well it's that time of year again, the summer holidays are almost over
and I'm back to Uni next week for my last year. I've had an amazing summer, my mom came to visit from Australia for two months. We went to Marbella for three weeks and made a quick visit to Dublin (images to follow soon) and last week I went to Brugge and Amsterdam with my fĂance (images also to follow) ..been a little bit negligent with the ole' blog lately, sorry! Now I'm home and back into my routine I will start to post frequently again. Oh and it's a total coincidence that I happen to write my comeback post on the 16th, ha!
Right, so I will leave on this note - 3rd year here I come!
As part of my previous post about the Volkshotel in Amsterdam, I also wanted to share a few more snaps I got developed from the rest of the trip. Gotta love Boots for their incredible disposable camera quality!
Another highlight of my visit to Amsterdam was the Rein Cafe in the Oost. A delightful minimal café that strives on all kinds of healthy goodness. If Gluten free and green smoothies are your thing, then this place is for you. Not only did I eat a delicious breakfast - pictured below but my eyes also feasted on the inspiration that surrounded the walls and some great interior design too!

I recently visited Amsterdam and stayed at the Volkshotel. It was such a unique hotel and I had such an amazing stay so I thought I would write a post and share my experience.
The trip started with a ferry from Hull to Bruges then my fĂance and I caught a train from Bruges to Amsterdam. We stayed in the Oost aka the east side of Amsterdam, a new experience for me because in the past I have just stayed in the centre. Arriving at Centraal train station we caught a short stop Metro ride to Wilbautstraat and a 5 minute walk later we arrived at the Volkshotel. When we arrived we were lucky enough to receive an upgrade to the Ms. Big room.
After seeing our fabulous room we went for a walk around the hotel. There were maps and brochures at the reception desk and these had been designed by staff at the hotel. It gave a list of the cool places to visit where the usuals hang out, making you feel like a local. We went to visit the rooftop where they had sauna's and hot tub spa's, unfortunately we forgot our swimmers.. Oops! We went and chilled out with a beer and had a spectacular view of the Oost. The next day we hired some bicycles from the hotel and had a ride around the Dam. Definitely a place I would recommend to stay.

Back in February 2015, I went to Edinburgh for the first time and decided to document the trip on my Mom's old Canon AF35ML camera. This was the first camera ever used to photograph me. Unfortunately the bloody thing broke, because the batteries inside exploded so acid had dripped onto the metal part of where the battery sits. Note to self - always take batteries out of electronics. Feeling somewhat upset due to it's sentimental value, I took it to University and one of my lecturers Ricky fixed it for me. He yanked out the old batteries with a pair of plyers and created a barrier using foil for the new batteries. Problem solved! Or was it? Anyhow, I took the camera with me.
