VOLKSHOTEL #101

4:30 am

I recently visited Amsterdam and stayed at the Volkshotel. It was such a unique hotel and I had such an amazing stay so I thought I would write a post and share my experience.

The trip started with a ferry from Hull to Bruges then my fíance and I caught a train from Bruges to Amsterdam. We stayed in the Oost aka the east side of Amsterdam, a new experience for me because in the past I have just stayed in the centre. Arriving at Centraal train station we caught a short stop Metro ride to Wilbautstraat and a 5 minute walk later we arrived at the Volkshotel. When we arrived we were lucky enough to receive an upgrade to the Ms. Big room.

After seeing our fabulous room we went for a walk around the hotel. There were maps and brochures at the reception desk and these had been designed by staff at the hotel. It gave a list of the cool places to visit where the usuals hang out, making you feel like a local. We went to visit the rooftop where they had sauna's and hot tub spa's, unfortunately we forgot our swimmers.. Oops! We went and chilled out with a beer and had a spectacular view of the Oost. The next day we hired some bicycles from the hotel and had a ride around the Dam. Definitely a place I would recommend to stay.
